Blue Plate Special

We have two lovely items for our Blue Plate Special giveaway this week. Try and guess what the theme is!

One is this gorgeous original painting by Cori Dantini. (ARV: $200)

“Tree Hugger” (6X8)

Cori is an incredible artist that is very loved by the Where Women Create/Where Women Cook family. (Seriously, how could you not love her with this photo?? Impossible!)

Here’s a little bit about Cori…

cori dantini received her BFA from washington state university, in pullman washington. this is also where she grew up (gazing upon the rolling wheat fields of the palouse).

and THIS is exactly where she finds herself (happily) again after many years away. only this time, she is accompanied by her own family; a husband liam, a son henry, and her borderchowbrador lucy.

she spends her days working in her studio doing all kinds of cutting, pasting, and painting while listening to book after book on tape. she also loves to listen to great music, watch a fantastic movie, read a good book, and to have a good laugh (not all at once, of course). oh- and a nice walk now and again also is enjoyed, especially if there is a bird sighting or two.

the creative process? at the moment i find myself drawn to the notion of capturing simple (whimsical) moments in imaginary places. when i was a child i spent hours drawing a cast of buggish characters who lived in mushrooms and flowers, so it seems only natural to visit these ideas again. now the ideas are a little more thoughtful (perhaps?). the notions of sharing moments, wondering about things, listening… chatting. waiting. friends. family. home. i suppose i am terrifically interested in all the things that fill us up.

by layering elements of vintage paper, pencil, paint, and pen i am looking to create a naive representation of these “filled up” moments. my hope is to capture something tangible about HOW we are, not WHO we are, and to do it with a touch of whimsical irony.

As our kitchen item, we have a very special one today. It’s a gorgeous, solid-wood, large, Lazy Susan from Vintage at Heart that has been hand crafted out of a retired wine cask. This will be a family heirloom, it is so pretty and solidly made. (Please note, that these are one of a kind works of art. The Lazy Susan pictured may not be the one you receive.) These are stunning in person and make a GREAT tool for home life and entertaining alike.

Solid Wood Reclaimed Wine Cask Lazy Susan (ARV: $175)

Blue Plate Special: Patience Brewster Cake Plate

For this week’s Blue Plate Special, we are giving away a gorgeous cake plate by Patience Brewter. (Is it not cute? I LOVE it.)

And a little about the artist-

Patience Brewster was born and grew up in Plymouth Massachusetts.
She attended Philadelphia College of Art as a printmaker and bookmaker.
After college, she took her portfolio to children’s book publishers.
From 1978 to 2001 she published 35 books for children and adults.

In 1995 she began designing for several paper and greeting card publishers.
This triggered a desire to return to painting for pleasure and from inspiration.
Shortly thereafter she began compiling shows of her work.

Her first show at the Field Gallery was in 1999. It felt like a wonderful homecoming.

Around that time a company called Department 56 licensed a dozen or so of her
images for three dimensional ornaments which they called “Krinkles”.
She created designs in the hundreds which were sold globally over the next ten years.

She launched her own card and paper company with her husband Holland Gregg, in 2002 encouraged directly by the warm reaction from the audience and collectors here at the Field Gallery.

In 2008 she initiated another business creating Krinkles, linens and now sterling silver jewelry. Working closely with crafts people in the Philippines and in Mexico she has been able to gain control over detail, quality and quantity of her items.

Today she lives in the finger lakes region of New York.

It will make someone’s day to win, I know!

Y’all know the drill…comment below to enter and tell us what you’ve enjoyed this week on Amuse Bouche. If you Tweet (or Facebook it) come back and link and tell me so you get an extra entry!

This giveaway closes on Friday, January 7th, at 11:59pm MST (Winner announced Saturday, the 8th)!

I hope everyone has a Happy New Year!
