Where Women Cook: Celebrate! Jael Rattigan

Jael Rattigan and her husband Dan own and operate French Broad Chocolates in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Asheville, NC. Their dessert restaurant, French Broad Chocolate Lounge, creates artisanal chocolates and handmade desserts from fine chocolate and local ingredients, and has been voted “Best Desserts in Western North Carolina” for the past three years. They serve their sweet delicacies alongside beer and wine, espresso and tea.

Presently, her attention is focused on their newest venture - building a bean-to-bar chocolate factory in downtown Asheville, just blocks from the Chocolate Lounge. Their new chocolate factory will not only produce a line of artisanal chocolate bars, but will also create bulk house-ground chocolate for use in their pastries and confections at the Chocolate Lounge. They will be one of a handful of chocolatiers in the world making their confections from their own bean-to-bar chocolate.

Jael and Dan opened their first restaurant, Bread & Chocolate, in Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica, where their first son was born. After two years, they moved to Asheville, NC and started their small chocolate truffle business in their certified home kitchen, selling at farmer’s markets and local natural foods stores. They feel blessed and grateful to have been supported by their customers throughout their growth, and look forward to serving the world through chocolate.

Jael is proud mama to two spirited boys, Sam and Max.

“I am so honored to be included in Where Women Cook - Celebrate, alongside such creative and inspiring women!”

I loved being involved with Where Women Cook: Celebrate! Because of publications deadlines, we had New Years Day in November. It was such fun to have the house decorated for Christmas and celebrate New Year’s a little early. Our guests loved being dressed in their holiday finery and by the time the actual holidays rolled round, we were already in full party mode.

“Never in our wildest dreams did we image what being a part of this amazing cook book would entail. Not only are we sharing these pages with some of the best women chefs in the business, but we are also carrying on a tradition of fine food that has been passed down in our family as well.

The beauty of the content, both rich in photos and stories, has rekindled in us not only a passion to cook in us, but also reminded the ones we hold dear that there is more to food than just how it tastes. Having the personal meaning of each of the recipes makes them feel like heirlooms passed down from generation to generation and we are the beneficiaries.

Being a part of CELEBRATE is an honor that we will hold dear for the rest of our lives both in our kitchens and in our hearts!” ~Shea and Debbie

A Gilded Life is the creative collaboration of Debbie Murray and Shea Fragoso. This mother-daughter design team creates the objects of their dreams daily in a loft space in the heart of downtown Los Angeles. With backgrounds in painting, architectural glass, clothing design, fine jewelry, and event planning, the world of mixed media was the perfect blend of what came before and what comes next.

Debbie and Shea are honored to have been featured in many of Stampington’s publications, as well as the book Where Women Create - Celebrations. They host a monthly subscription club, The Gilded Girls Stash Society, and they are busy planning their next art retreat, to be held in Pasadena, California November 8-11, 2012. Their first product line of home décor and jewelry pieces will launch with Demdaco in January of 2012, and they are busy working on their first book.

With a schedule so blissfully hectic, they cannot help but feel that the path has led them to exactly where they were meant to be. Living A Gilded Life.

“Some of my earliest memories are of playing with my Mom and Grandmother’s jewelry. Opening up their jewelry boxes, made me giddy with excitement. I still get that same feeling today when I find a piece of Vintage jewelry - that piece of jewelry tells a story and I love giving it new life!”

With a lifelong love of crafts, fashion and everything girly, Patricia’s journey with Tippy Stockton began in 2009 when she opened an Etsy shop, shortly after the passing of both her parents. With a background in Interior Design, Industrial/Product Design and Graphic Design, designing jewelry has been an outlet that combines all elements of design. In August of 2011, a new website was launched.

Patricia has created a full line of jewelry that women of all ages will find versatile and easy to wear for casual or formal occasions. Many of her pieces are Vintage - from a small bead, to a length of Vintage brass chain, bringing in those rich elements and textures from days gone by will hopefully bring joy and inspire people to reflect on their own history.

Patricia lives in Edmonds, Washington, (a small suburb of Seattle) with her husband John, son Kellan, and her constant Studio companion, Chloe. On any given day you’ll find her hard at work in her garden Studio perched among the tall cedars and lilacs.
