For this week’s Blue Plate Special, we are giving away a gorgeous cake plate by Patience Brewter. (Is it not cute? I LOVE it.)
And a little about the artist-
Patience Brewster was born and grew up in Plymouth Massachusetts.
She attended Philadelphia College of Art as a printmaker and bookmaker.
After college, she took her portfolio to children’s book publishers.
From 1978 to 2001 she published 35 books for children and adults.

In 1995 she began designing for several paper and greeting card publishers.
This triggered a desire to return to painting for pleasure and from inspiration.
Shortly thereafter she began compiling shows of her work.
Her first show at the Field Gallery was in 1999. It felt like a wonderful homecoming.
Around that time a company called Department 56 licensed a dozen or so of her
images for three dimensional ornaments which they called “Krinkles”.
She created designs in the hundreds which were sold globally over the next ten years.
She launched her own card and paper company with her husband Holland Gregg, in 2002 encouraged directly by the warm reaction from the audience and collectors here at the Field Gallery.
In 2008 she initiated another business creating Krinkles, linens and now sterling silver jewelry. Working closely with crafts people in the Philippines and in Mexico she has been able to gain control over detail, quality and quantity of her items.
Today she lives in the finger lakes region of New York.
It will make someone’s day to win, I know!

Really enjoying what I have read on the blog so far, especially reading about Tiffany Kirchner-Dixon, who is practically my neighbor and a spectacular photographer - she shot gorgeous portraits of my sister and nieces last summer. Between Tiffany, Ree Drummond and Mary Jane Butters, it all helps me see my farm in a whole new light!
Posted on my facebook page too! http://www.facebook.com/patricemsheets

Mostly, I have been following the blog and enjoying the photography. I love the picture of all the twinkle lights at Chelsea Market and the photo of the calf nestled in the shade.
I love to follow and get inspiration from all these talented ladies.
I loved the vintage kitchen items, took me in my minds eye back to my Nanny’s house and all her old worn loving kitchen. I also love the mini burro, I never knew they came that small and isnt he cute. I think the cake plate is adorable and you know with a cake plate like that, I think that would make anyone bake more cakes and throw caution to the wind and get really creative in the decorating portion of cake baking, can you see a new design in baking beginning to form in your mind? OOOO I can. Nice Blog I am a first tme visitor from a link on pioneer woman and I really like what I see and read, thanks for sharing.

Although I sell pampered chef, I love gadgets and cookbooks, the older the better. You are so right when you say they don’t make things they used to. I enjoy all my kitchen gadgets, the old and the new. I can’t to see what new ones I find this year. I love the photo of the bed outside, as well as being introduced to a new artist.
Wow,wow, wow! I so enjoyed your first edition of Where Women Cook. While living on a remote island (just my husband and I)one can really miss the closeness of lady friends. There is such a connection,a sharing of knowledge,a female bonding that runs throughout Where Women Cook as well as Where Women Create. Thank you for your high quality publications!
That is an exquisite cake plate! How whimsical.
This week is not unlike any other extraordinary week on this wonderful blog when I wanted to head to the nearest market and whip up something wonderful with a new kitchen tool! The story of Mary Jane was thought provoking and lovely. I could relate to her need to live off the land and produce what her family consumed. I look forward to visiting her site and would love to know more about the “ready to eat dried foods!” Thank you for sharing this story and for gracing each of us with daily and weekly stories of amazing people from across America.
