Soft Pretzel Bites

Pretzels are a great snack food but soft pretzels are even better.  And if you make those pretzels into bite-size pieces, you’ve got one of the ultimate Super Bowl snacks covered.  This Soft Pretzel Bites Recipe is ready to be used on the day of the big game or as an everyday snack.

Soft Pretzel Bites
 
Soft pretzels are an American snack food favorite. Serve these tasty soft pretzel bites on Super Bowl Sunday or any day you need a great snack.

Ingredients
  • 2¼ cups flour
  • 1½ tsp. salt
  • 3 TB. unsalted butter, melted
  • 1½ tsp. active dry yeast
  • ¾ cup warm water
  • 1 TB white sugar
  • ½ cup baking soda
  • 1 whole egg, whipped with 1 TB. cold water
  • Course salt
Instructions
  1. Mix together melted butter, water, sugar, and yeast in a small bowl. Set aside for about 5 minutes.
  2. Add flour and 1½ tsp. salt to the bowl of your stand mixer. Add yeast mixture and mix on low using the dough attachment.
  3. Knead for 3-5 minutes or until dough is a soft (not sticky) consistency. You may have to add a small amount of extra water or flour as the kneading takes place.
  4. Form pretzel dough into a ball and place in a greased bowl. Cover with a damp towel or plastic wrap. Allow to rise until dough as doubled in size (usually about 1 hour.
  5. After dough has risen, preheat oven to 425 degrees and fill up stock pot with about 2-3 quarts of water and baking soda, bring to a boil.
  6. Separate dough into 4 equal parts and roll into long “dough ropes” that are about 20-24 inches long. Cut each dough rope into 20-24 1 inch pieces.
  7. Boil dough pieces (about 10-15 at a time) for about 20-30 seconds Remove pieces using a large, slotted spoon.
  8. Arrange boiled pretzel bites on large baking sheet that is covered in parchment paper or coated with non-stick cooking spray. Be sure to arrange so that the bites do not touch each other.
  9. Brush each boiled pretzel bite generously with egg/water mixture and sprinkle liberally with course salt.
  10. Bake for about 12-15 minutes or until golden brown. Watch carefully as to not burn.
  11. Serve with your favorite pretzel dipping sauce, like mustard or cheese sauce.
