“‘Dressing up’ original family-style recipes for even your pickiest eaters.”
Welcome back to another week of Sunday Brunch, that time of the week where we shine a little Internet love on a food blogger that has caught our eye. At the end of the quarter, our Editor-in-Chief, Jo Packham, will be selecting one of these lovely women featured here weekly to be in an upcoming issue of Where Women Cook.
This week I’m thrilled to introduce you all to Jenny Flake, author of “Picky Palate”.
I met Jenny when we were on a blogging trip with our families in Chicago and just love her. Before you ask, YES, she really is THAT gorgeous. In fact, when we received the information packets on who would be going on the trip and I saw her my first thought was, “OMG! I have to stand in publicity photos next to THAT?!!”. However, since radical cosmetic surgery was neither fiscally possible nor on my list of “things I really want to do”, I just went with it and got to know the gorgeous and talented angel that only gets prettier as you get to know her and her talents. She’s a SAHM to 2 adorable boys, a retired dental hygienist and a food blogger that created the popular blog http://picky-palate.com.
“My love of cooking didn’t get started until my husband and I got our first home back in 2001, where I realized I didn’t have the foggiest idea of what to do in my new kitchen! That led me to read countless cookbooks and watch cooking show after cooking show on Food Network. In all of my experimenting and studying, I found my real passion which is creating and writing my own recipes. In 2004 I started entering cooking competitions on a whim and had a blast competing in competitions of all kinds for a few years. Picky Palate started as just a baby late 2007 and has grown to be more fun than I had imagined.”
I started checking out her blog because she was so fun and kind on that trip but now I pop in all the time because I love to look at all the things Jenny comes up with. She posts recipes that are easy, fun and delicious that appeal to kids and adults alike, which is always a bonus for busy families.
I LOVE the adorable Hot Chocolate Cupcake with Mint Kissed Centers she has on her blog right now…
…and her Honeyed Apple Peanut Butter Tart…
…and her Ice Cream Sundae 4 Layer Cake (It has ice cream in the batter, people!)…
…and PB&J Shortbread Cookie Bars that look quick, easy and heavenly…
…my stuffy nose and sore throat are positively ACHING for this Green Chili Chicken and Lime Soup…
…and I am pretty sure that my kids would think I was amazing if I made her Individual Spaghetti Pies.
There are SO many more things that I want to put on my “to bake/cook” list from Jenny and you will, too! Give her site a browse and/or follow her on twitter @PickyPalate. (Tell her I said, ‘HELLO!”)
(Make sure you enter this week’s “Blue Plate Special” : A $400 giveaway of a Kitchen Aid Mixer and goodies from “The Farm Chicks!” You have until TUESDAY, DEC 21 at 11:59 MST to enter!)
